Il solenne incipit del Vangelo di Giovanni proclama l’inaudita notizia della presenza di Dio con noi, un Dio che ha una carne, un corpo, un Dio che abita nella trascendenza dei Cieli ma allo stesso tempo un Dio che ha una mamma, vive in un tiepido grembo di donna. Scultori e pittori hanno lasciato una infinita tavolozza di colori e di figure a raccontare e raccontare di nuovo questa storia. E che in modo misterioso di intreccia con la storia degli uomini, con le sue miserie e i suoi orrori. Una Natività che non è assente neppure nella follia distruttrice delle guerre, come nella carneficina di Stalingrado

The solemn incipit of the Gospel of John proclaims the unprecedented news of God’s presence with us, a God who has flesh, a body, a God who dwells in the transcendence of the heavens, but at the same time a God who has a mother, living in a warm woman’s womb. Sculptors and painters have left an infinite palette of colors and figures to tell and retell this story. And it mysteriously intertwines with the history of mankind, with its miseries and horrors.
