Ma come si fa a raffigurare la Trinità? Gesù si è incarnato, i pittori lo rappresentano uomo tra gli esseri umani. Già è molto più difficile per le altre due Persone: poiché chiamiamo, per analogia di esperienza, Dio come Padre, lo si raffigura più anzianotto del Figlio Gesù; lo Spirito, poiché evoca qualcosa come un soffio, lo rappresentiamo come una colomba, anche sulla scorta di un passo evangelico. Ma la Trinità? Una comunione così profonda da realizzare una unità sostanziale senza che nessuna delle tre Persone perda la propria identità? Difficile davvero da rappresentare. Difficile anche da capire per noi che oscilliamo tra un individualismo esasperato e narcisista da una parte e una massificazione da sciame dall’altra.
Trinity – John 16,12-15
But how do you depict the Trinity? Jesus was incarnated, painters represent him as a man among human beings. It is already much more difficult for the other two Persons: since we call, by analogy of experience, God as Father, he is depicted as older than the Son Jesus; the Spirit, since it evokes something like a breath, we represent it as a dove, also on the basis of a passage from the Gospel. But the Trinity? A communion so profound as to achieve a substantial unity without any of the three Persons losing their identity? Truly difficult to represent. Also difficult to understand for us who oscillate between an exasperated and narcissistic individualism on the one hand and a swarm-like massification on the other.
